6 Things To Do Before Summer Ends

Jul 29, 2025 10:05AM ● By Elise Renaud

The end of summer is right around the corner. That means that students are gearing up for school, the weather will be getting warmer, and more after-school activities will take up the calendar. If you’re looking for one last hurrah before fall starts, here are six things to do.

Swim in the Lake/Pond

Enjoy the fresh water while it’s still warm out by going for a dip in a local lake like Storrs Pond or Wilsons Landing. Pack a lunch and some water toys for a memorable day by the water.

Visit your favorite Ice Cream spot

Cool off from the summer heat with a sweet treat from your favorite ice cream stand. Many are only open in the summer so be sure to check the hours of operation to make sure you don’t miss your chance.

Attend a Local Fair

Try something new and enjoy delicious fair food at a local fair. There are many happening between now and the end of September. Here’s a list of six to consider.

Explore nature while on a hike

Taking a hike or walking on trails is a great way to explore the changing seasons. Bring along some binoculars and go bird watching or a magnifying class to look at the bugs crawling around. Here’s a list of some hiking spots.

Go for a picnic

Bring mealtime outside with a picnic. Find your favorite local park, grab a blanket, and enjoy the fresh air with your friends and family.

Attend a local event

The Upper Valley has many events each week ranging from family friendly to adult only. View what’s coming up here.
