Feb 04, 2026 10:15AM ● By Elise Renaud

Winter isn’t going anywhere soon, which means there’s still time to find a new hobby or activity that you enjoy during the colder months. If you’re looking for ideas, here are a few to try.

Snowshoeing

Hit the trails with some snowshoes and feel like you’re floating on the snow. AllTrails lists several great options in the area like the Hanover River Trail, the Storrs Pond Trail, and the Grasse Rd, Champman, Hunter East, Garripay, Maple, and Piane Trail

Sledding or Tubing

Get the whole family out for a day of sledding or tubing in the Upper Valley. Tenney Mountain Tubing Park offers two-hour passes for tubing. Kids must be 5-years-old to participate.

Skiing

A common winter activity in New England is skiing or snowboarding. Whether you’re brand new to the activity or a seasoned skier, ski hills like the Storrs Hill Ski Area or the Dartmouth Skiway are great places to spend a day on the slopes. Other options for a weekend of fun include Ragged Mountain Resort and Killington Resort.

Ice Skating

With the Winter Olympics happening this month in Italy, you might get inspired to give ice skating a try. There are several places to hit the ice like Union Arena Community Center, Campion Rink, and Lake Morey Resort

Ice Fishing

If you enjoy fishing in the summer, have you given ice fishing a try? TBC Guides based in Hanover, NH, offers ice fishing experiences.

“We are drilling 6-8 holes per person through the ice, setting up traps with live bait, and running to those flags when they go up. While we are waiting for those fish to bite, we are learning how to jig and how to use sonar to find more fish,” the website said.
