Opera Vermont Presents William Grant Still’s Costaso — World Premiere

Opera Vermont presents the world premiere of William Grant Still’s Costaso, a three-act opera of love, betrayal, and tragic sacrifice, at Chandler Music Hall.

Experience the world premiere of Costaso, by composer William Grant Still and librettist Verna Arvey, presented by Opera Vermont at Chandler Music Hall.

Set in the Spanish-ruled American Southwest, this sweeping three-act opera follows Lieutenant Ramon Costaso and his wife as their devotion is tested by jealousy, betrayal, and the corruption of power. Their story unfolds through soaring arias, vibrant choruses, and a moving Act II duet between Costaso and his loyal friend Manuel.

The second production in Opera Vermont’s annual opera cycle at Chandler, Costaso brings love, loyalty, and tragic sacrifice to the stage while celebrating the distinctive musical voice of a trailblazing American composer.
