Woodstock Film Series: Seeds

Filmed in black and white, “Seeds” is a lyrical portrait of Black generational farmers in the American South. Interweaving the stories of three families, the film creates a collective and intimate portrait of farming today, a moving exploration of their lives, joys, and struggles, and of the fragility of legacy and land ownership. Through scenes of cotton harvesting, chasing cows, and mending broken machinery, Seeds honors farmers’ deep connection to heritage and place while confronting a sobering truth: only a fraction of the 16 million acres once owned by Black farmers remains today. In moments of warmth and resilience, this film reveals the enduring strength of memory, legacy, and hope.
