Beginner Snowshoe Workshop

Would you like to get outside in the winter but worry about not having the right gear? Not sure how to stay warm while spending time outdoors in the snow? Join VINS volunteer, Doug Cohen, for a class that will help you enjoy the outdoors comfortably and safely this winter. With over 40 years of outdoor adventuring experience, Doug will share his wintertime expertise in this workshop. Learn how to stay warm through proper layering, what types of food help maintain energy, and get introduced to the basic equipment you’ll need. Bring your questions and be ready for a fun time. This class is perfect for anyone looking to learn how to enjoy the winter season. The first part of the class will be spent inside discussing the realities of winter—its good, bad, and challenging aspects. In the second part we’ll head outside to cover equipment essentials as well as basic snowshoe techniques. Weather permitting, we will strap on snowshoes and explore the VINS Nature Center. If there is not sufficient snow for snowshoeing, we’ll hit the trail for some cold-weather hiking on VINS’ trails.
