Dartmouth College Glee Club

Gioachino Rossini called his Petite messe solennelle (Little solemn mass), written during his long “retirement” from composing, “the last of my péchés de vieillesse” (sins of old age). Music lovers beg to differ! A setting of the full Latin text of a Catholic mass, the Messe displays Rossini’s gift for Bach-like polyphonic writing while also demonstrating the gifts for melody and color that made his operas such enduring favorites. As Dartmouth’s premier student chorus, the Glee Club soars through this work of choral, small group and solo movements, with Rossini’s original accompaniment of two pianos and a harmonium.
