Autumn is in full swing, and that means that you’re probably looking for a place to enjoy the colors before they’re gone. Well, driving around is a good option, but if you’re looking for a place to hang out for a bit and really take it in, here are a few to visit.
Flume Gorge
The Flume Gorge is an easy hike that takes you right into the heart of the fall foliage. You better stop in by the 25th before it closes for the season. Tickets are $18 online or $21 at the ticket window for adults, $16 online or $19 at the window for kids age 6 to 12 and free for kids age 5 and younger. Learn more here.
VINS
The Vermont Institute of Natural Science in Quechee, VT, has lots of outdoor space to enjoy the colors with space for kids to run around and play in the crisp fall air. Learn more about VINS here.
Gale Mountain Trail
Near Norwich, VT, The Gale Mountain Trail takes you 1.4 miles out and back to a summit with a 360 view of the fall foliage. It takes under an hour to complete.
Sculptured Rocks
Take a drive and stop at Sculptured Rocks in Groton, NH. This dog friendly state park offers beautiful views on its 272 acres.
“The Cockermouth River carved a narrow canyon in bedrock on its way to Newfound Lake, beginning as the last ice age drew to a close. Nature used grains of sand suspended in the current to carve the walls of the canyon into curious shapes and create potholes in the bedrock,” the New Hampshire State Parks’s website said.
Patch Orchards
Enjoy some apple picking while taking in the fall foliage. The farm has beautiful views of the mountains and some colorful trees on the property. Learn more about the orchards here.
Quechee Gorge
Stop by Vermont's deepest gorge at Quiche Gorge and it's surrounding 612-acre Quechee Gorge State Park. The hike to the gorge takes about 33 minutes for most hikers and is about 1.3 miles. Learn more about the gorge here.
Drive up to the White Mountains
If you're looking for a drive to just take in the color, head to the White Mountains for some spectacular views. According to visitwhitemountains.com, for a classic fall foliage drive, "travel the Kancamagus Highway between Lincoln and Conway. Stop at designated overlooks and recreation areas along the way, then continue into the Mount Washington Valley or return to Lincoln-Woodstock," the website said.
