March is closer than we think, and if you’re looking for something fun to do, there are some performances that you might want to attend at the local opera houses:

March 6-8

At the Lebanon Opera House, Newsies is performing, and senior and student ticket pricing is available.

“Set in turn-of-the century New York City, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged “newsies.” When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what’s right!” the website said. 

March 10

“March is Music in our Schools month! To celebrate, come support band students from Grantham, Plainfield, Lebanon Middle, and Lebanon High Schools as they take the stage for their combined band concert. These students have been working hard in school to prepare, and you will love the wide variety of music,” the Lebanon Opera House said. Learn more about the 6:30 p.m. performance here.

March 11

All District Jazz is taking the stage at the Lebanon Opera House at 6:30 p.m. Band students from Grantham, Plainfield, Lebanon Middle, and Lebanon High Schools “have been working hard in school to prepare, and you will love the wide variety of music,” the opera house website said. 

March 12

The Celtic Tenors will be bringing their “haunting Celtic ballads and breathtaking classical arias to contemporary favorites” to the Lebanon Opera House stage at 7:30 p.m. Learn more and get tickets here.

March 14

At 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Yasmin Williams is performing. The Lebanon Opera House website said that “The New York Times called ‘one of the country’s most imaginative young solo guitarists.’”

March 17

At 6:30 p.m., choir students from Grantham Village School, Plainfield Elementary School, Lebanon Middle School and Lebanon High School — including the LMS 5/6 and 7/8 choirs, Treblemakers, LHS Choir, and Superlatives (which feature select LHS staff as special guests) will perform in Celebration of Song at the Lebanon Opera House. March 19

“Lucius, the Grammy-nominated indie-pop band, is known for engaging live performances and spellbinding harmonies” and performing at 7:30 p.m. at the Lebanon Opera House. Learn more here.

March 21

Both Sides Now: The Music and Lives of Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen is performing on the Lebanon Opera House stage at 7:30 p.m. 

“Created by and starring Robbie Schaefer and Danielle Wertz, the cabaret-style performance moves effortlessly across decades and features unforgettable songs such as A Case of You, Hallelujah, Big Yellow Taxi, Suzanne, and many more,” the website said.

March 22

“The United States Navy Band Northeast Pops Ensemble comes to the Claremont Opera House for an inspiring afternoon of patriotic favorites, orchestral selections, and popular music. This family-friendly performance highlights the remarkable talent and precision of one of the Navy’s premier musical units,” the Claremont Opera House website said. March 28

“AM GOLD Yacht Rock, based out of the NYC area, performs all the #1 hits from 1975–1985, including music by Hall & Oates, Michael McDonald, Toto, Christopher Cross, Steely Dan, Kenny Loggins, and more. The show also includes the unforgettable one-hit wonders of the era, such as Brandy, Escape (The Piña Colada Song), Dancing in the Moonlight, and other classics,” the Claremont Opera House’s website said. The show is at 7:30 p.m.

March 29

At the Lebanon Opera House, Kaki King & GLITCH: BUGS is performing at 5 p.m. 

“In the sensational multimedia show BUGS, Kaki King is your guide on an audio-visual journey that combines live guitar performance, sound samples, and field recordings from nature — all triggered in real time. This engaging performance encourages audience members of all ages to shout out their favorite bug and dance like one of the insect characters projected onto King’s guitar,” the website said.

March 30

At 10 a.m., Kaki King & GLITCH: BUGS, the Youth Education Series is taking the stage at the Lebanon Opera House.
