5 State Parks To Visit This Summer

If you’re looking to explore more of the Upper Valley this summer, here are five state parks to spend the day at.
Cardigan Mountain State Park
In Orange, NH, Cardigan Mountain State Park is 5,655 acres with a 3,121-foot treeless granite summit that has “outstanding views of west central New Hampshire, with a panorama that includes Mount Monadnock and the White Mountains, Camel's Hump in Vermont, and Pleasant Mountain in Maine,” the New Hampshire State Parks website said. Mount Ascutney State Park
In Windsor, VT, Mount Ascutney State Park has a 3,144-foot summit and offers camping, cabins, four trailheads, and more than 12 miles of hiking trails. Learn more here.
Silver Lake State Park
In Barnard, VT, Silver Lake State Park, around the 84-acre lake, has a swimming area, picnic grounds, and camping area that includes 39 tent or RV sites and seven lean-to sites. There’s also a picnic pavilion. Learn more here.
Lake Tarleton State Park
In Piermont, NH, Lake Tarleton State Park is a 48-acre undeveloped park. The 315-acre lake offers swimming, fishing, and hunting. Learn more here.
Ricker Pond State Park
In Groton, VT, the Ricker Pond State Park has a swimming beach, a boat launch, boat rentals, a shelter for campers, and trails. For those looking to stay at the park, it offers 26 tent/RV sites, 23 lean-tos, five cabins, and two cottages for rent. Learn more here.
