Now that spring is officially here, it’s time to start planning more warm-weather outdoor activities. Luckily, the Upper Valley is home to an array of local parks and playgrounds—perfect for a kid-venture and parent-approved! Read on for five park recommendations to check out as the weather gets warmer.

Colburn Park

A staple for Lebanon residents and families with children, Colburn Park is the perfect spot to stop for a picnic, playground visit, or for the kids to run around on the fenced-in green. With a lineup of events during the warmer months, chances are you might also catch some live music, a food truck, or the farmers’ market while you’re there.

Surrounded by city buildings, local businesses, and food spots, there’s plenty to do and see in and around the park. Complete with picnic tables, benches, water fountains, and a “Little Free Library,” Colburn Park is one of the best local spots to bring the kids to as the weather warms up.

Kendal Riverfront Park

Located at 84 Lyme Road in Hanover, Kendal Riverfront Park is a great place to stop if you’re okay with parking and taking a short walk down to the riverfront area. You’ll find a sloping lawn, boat docks, and a beautiful view, perfect for a picnic or to watch the clouds go by on a sunny day.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even try this hike recommended by the Hanover Conservancy.

Lyman Point Park

Hartford’s Lyman Point Park, located at 167 Maple Street in White River Junction, is a great park for all ages. Complete with benches and picnic tables, and a playground to entertain the kids, this park is just a short walk from downtown White River Junction or Main Street in West Lebanon.

Accessible by sidewalk access or parking lot access, Lyman Point Park hosts a variety of events this spring and summer, including live music in the outdoor theater, community initiatives like Green Up Day, or even tai chi classes.

Riverside Park Pavilion and Skate Park

Located at 0 Glen Road in Lebanon, Riverside Park is a family favorite when it comes to playgrounds. Complete with slides, swings, monkey bars, a climbing wall, and other fun features, the accessible playground offers fun for all ages, and parents can keep watch from a bench on the sidelines or from the nearby pavilion picnic area.

Right across the parking lot, older siblings can enjoy the newest renovation at the park—the Rusty Berrings Skate Park—with a newly installed pavilion and lights. The skate park is open until 11 pm.

Quechee Green Park

Find the Quechee Green Park at 70 Village Green Circle in Quechee, Vermont. Bring the kids to Quechee Green Park to enjoy the playground, open athletic field, and shaded gazebo area. It’s open until 9 pm.

To get some energy out, try the 0.7-mile loop around the park with views of the Ottauquechee River. If you’re lucky, you might get to see a hot-air balloon!
