Protect Yourself from Scams: Tips From Mascoma Bank

Apr 24, 2023 03:46PM ● By Virginia Dean
Officials from Mascoma Bank are warning customers to be aware of active scams where some have received text messages or phone calls that appear to be from its bank. Once that kind of communication has taken place, an individual then attempts to collect account details or get the account holder to log into their digital banking account. The person conducting fraud may already have information about the bank customer, and it can seem very real. Not all scams are alike; focusing on ways to spot fraud will help in the long term.

How can you protect yourself?

  • Slow down. Scammers want you to move quickly. Pause and think before you act.
  • Consider text messages, phone calls, emails, and links carefully before clicking or responding.
  • Contact someone you trust directly before taking a chance. Contact your local branch or the bank’s customer care center at (888) 627-2662 if you have questions about your account or suspect fraud.
  • Stay aware. The more you understand the threats, the better you can manage your data and privacy.

Please remember, Mascoma Bank will never ask for your account information or passwords via text messages or phone calls, ask you to log into digital banking, or send you a link via text message.
