The Melting Project: Help For A Good Cause

Mar 29, 2023 08:08PM ● By Stephanie Hatley
Open 365 days, the Upper Valley Haven serves more than 10,000 people each year. The Haven never charges for any of its services to those in need in the Upper Valley community. Whether it’s providing food, temporary shelter, supportive housing, children’s after-school programs, or children’s summer programs, the Haven has been serving the community since 1980. In 2022, the Haven provided food for 2,994 households, shelter for 40 families, and helped 15 households move into permanent housing from emergency shelters.

Over the last few years, The Melting Project has raised about $33,000 for Upper Valley Haven. This project takes jewelry donations from the community and sends them to a refiner, who then sends a check for 100 percent of the refined value. This project couldn’t be successful without the support of the Upper Valley community.

This year the goal is to send the biggest check yet to the Haven for Thanksgiving. So go through your jewelry boxes and donate the pieces you no longer wear to the Melting Project to support the Haven. It could be a ring, a necklace with a broken catch, a bangle bracelet, or anything made of white gold, yellow gold, or platinum. Drop off your donations at Designer Gold at 3 Lebanon Street in Hanover. Let’s see how much this community can donate to support the Upper Valley Haven in 2023!
