Winter Skin Issues: Protect You Skin From The Cold This Winter

Dec 12, 2022 06:16PM ● By Rose Terami
As winter sets in and the days get colder, they also get drier. Lower levels of moisture in the air lead do a decrease in humidity. While your hair might be more cooperative during the winter months, the dry air combined with colder temperatures can take a toll on your skin.

The harsh elements of the great outdoors—like wind and snow—can make it even more difficult to take care of your skin in the winter. To combat dryness, the most important thing to focus on is hydrating your skin, and there are a few ways to do this.

The skin on your face is the most delicate and susceptible to damage from dry and cold weather conditions. For your body, you can choose a basic lotion or moisturizer that suits your taste; for extra nourishment, look for a rich cream moisturizer, or add coconut oil to your routine. For your face, maintaining a healthy skin barrier is essential to balance the effects of the cold winter.

First, choose a hydrating facial cleanser that doesn’t strip your skin. From here, it’s best to keep your routine simple to avoid drying out your skin anymore, but you can target dryness with a serum—look for one that includes hyaluronic acid, which helps your skin retain moisture. To finish, choose a nourishing moisturizer that’s designed for use on the face, and one that doesn’t include ingredients that will clog your pores (look for “noncomedogenic” on the label).

If you need some extra help during this period, reach out to a local dermatologist like Peraza Dermatology Group, and they will be able to assist you with tips to help you during this dry winter season.
