With the holidays and colder weather fast approaching, there’s no better time to give back to our community. The Claremont Soup Kitchen Claremont Soup Kitchen is a local nonprofit community agency that provides food assistance resources for those in need in the Sullivan County area. We spoke with Executive Director Cindy Stevens about the soup kitchen’s mission and impact. Q: What is the Claremont Soup Kitchen?

A: The Claremont Soup Kitchen is a trusted resource within our community that’s committed to providing assistance with dignity, respect, and compassion for all by procuring and distributing food and essentials through our program and partner agencies.



Q: How does the Claremont Soup Kitchen serve the community?

A: The Claremont Soup Kitchen serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner Monday through Friday and dinner only Saturday and Sunday. In addition, the Claremont Soup Kitchen has a food pantry where we provide nonperishable food boxes and frozen meat. We also offer fruits, vegetables, breads, and pastries five days a week.

The Claremont Soup Kitchen has a summer feeding program at five locations that offer breakfast and lunch to any child and accompanying adult in the city of Claremont. We also provide nonperishable food shelves with snacks and take-home items to the Claremont School District and the Claremont Learning Partnership.

 

Q: Where is the soup kitchen located?

A: 51 Central Street in Claremont, New Hampshire.

 

Q: What kinds of events is the soup kitchen involved in?

A: A fundraiser in collaboration with the Claremont Opera House. We participated in the Claremont Fall Festival chili cook-off, where we took first place for a nonprofit. We were voted 2021 Nonprofit of the Year by the Claremont Area Chamber of Commerce.

 

Q: What is the biggest impact of the Claremont Soup Kitchen?

A: 39,567 meals served, 3,776 monthly food boxes, and 12,961 meals from our summer feeding program.

 

Q: How can community members help with the Claremont Soup Kitchen's efforts?

A: We are always looking for volunteers as well as nonperishable or monetary donations.

 

Q: Are there any upcoming events?

A: Our annual Thanksgiving dinner is November 17 from 4 to 5 pm. The annual Thanksgiving box distribution for families in need is November 19 from 1 to 3 pm. And our annual Christmas dinner where we hand out toys and stockings to children is December 22 from 4 to 5 pm.

 

Q: What do you think is the best thing about the Claremont Soup Kitchen?

A: The most amazing thing about the Claremont Soup Kitchen is the relationships established with our guests. Claremont Soup Kitchen staff all have great compassion and love. Staff members know guests by their name and even food restrictions. There is a very strong bond between our guests and staff. We are all family and try our best to make our guests feel the same.
