Golfing isn’t just about sport; it’s about the experience. A carefully crafted blend between environment, resources, challenge, and community help deliver that personalized and satisfying experience that every serious golfer yearns for. For Montcalm Golf Club in Enfield, that experience is the draw for its members. Several of Montcalm’s dedicated staff put together all the information you need to get involved with golf, get to know the club, and even become a member.

Q: How long has Montcalm Golf Club been around? How have you changed over time?

A: Montcalm Golf Course was imagined and built by Andrew Sigler, a graduate of Dartmouth (’53) and Tuck (’56) in 2004. It was prompted by Dartmouth temporarily closing the Hanover Country Club in 2001 for renovations. Mr. Sigler was also a member of Augusta CC (home to the Masters), which has influenced some of the course’s layout.

Under the direction of Montcalm’s Director of Golf Steve Rogers, the course has seen many enhancements, including a new training and practice venue that includes 40 full-swing, natural-grass hitting stations, 20 PGA Tour approved Turf Hound hitting stations, and a bent-grass putting and chipping green, as well as beautifully groomed practice bunkers and pitching areas. A new 5,700-square-foot putting green was also installed for 2020.

Last year, Montcalm Golf Club became the new home course to the Dartmouth College men’s and women’s golf teams. The relocation of the teams is a result of the college permanently closing the Hanover Country Club. The two-year partnership provides Dartmouth access to Montcalm’s course and its state-of-the-art practice facilities, as well as the ability to host tournaments. Montcalm also carries Dartmouth merchandise in their pro shop.

A: Situated on 380 acres of land, when you arrive at Montcalm, you’ve left civilization and can squarely focus on the golf that lies ahead. Montcalm is not saddled with intrusions; rather, it is surrounded and embraced by Mother Nature.

On a clear day at Montcalm, you’re staring at 70 miles of the Green Mountains. The views are spectacular throughout the course, and the clubhouse sits near the top of the acreage, with the driving range/training facility facing the valley at Whaleback Ski Area. Golf Digest named Montcalm one of the Top 10 Best New Courses in the Country, and in 2007 it was named one of the best in New Hampshire. The holes are so well designed as you travel up and down the velvety fairways and hills. It is challenging but fair, with beautiful fairways and undulating greens. The course can play 6,829 yards from the back tees, but there are a variety of combination tees.

It really is so beautiful at Montcalm that you can lose focus on your game and become preoccupied by the natural beauty. The topography with the general course layout makes this a special course, one you can play every day without getting bored.
