5 Activities Your Kids Can Enjoy After School in Woodstock and the Surrounding Area

Apr 03, 2019 03:30PM ● By Kevin
As the school year winds down and the weather warms up, you may be looking for some new activities in which you can enroll your children. Woodstock and the Upper Valley have plenty of diverse places that offer after-school programs, specifically to keep kids active, educated, and enriched.

We dug up five spots that accommodate children after school for you to consider.

Green Mountain Rock Climbing Center

Green Mountain Rock Climbing Center has created a unique program for our local school-age climbers. In order to compete a team must consist of five or more climbers and a coach. No climbing experience is necessary for climbers or coaches, as the staff can teach everything on site.  Because of the young age of the Elementary League climbers, GMRCC asks that parents act as the belayers with one parent to every one to two climbers. Coaches are given a detailed Coaching Manual, which covers everything about coaching a climbing team and all of the equipment and belay lessons for the parents is provided.

Teams practice once a week and meet with other schools periodically to test skills at GMRCC Rutland. Practices take place after school at the gym and are guided by the coach. Each practice can consist of any mixture of fitness-based activities geared toward improving one's climbing ability. Students will work to improve balance, footwork, body position, and other climbing techniques. These exercises will help them to develop healthy habits and core fitness.
