Lebanon Gets Lucky’s: The Coffee Garage on the Square
Oct 10, 2018 02:55PM ● By Victoria PipasThe town of Lebanon has finally been blessed with that amenity that old and young, millennials and baby boomers, families and singles alike have long been coveting: a hip new coffee shop!
Lucky's Coffee Garage boasts the slogan “Fueling the Upper Valley One Cup at a Time,” and it’s one that’s welcome in a downtown that has been burdened by a café void for many years. The new café, housed in an impressively refurbished auto garage on the Lebanon Green, offers a list of delicious coffee drinks, baked goods, and more. Read on to learn more about the origins of the café, and then go sip some of the best coffee in the Upper Valley!
Deb searched long and hard for the right location to bring her dream of a coffee shop from the West Coast back to her native East Coast. She stumbled upon Roy’s Auto Service, the previous business located at 1 North Park Street in Lebanon. With her husband Dave, who teaches high school woodworking courses and jumped at the chance to stylishly refurbish a garage, Roy’s was rebuilt to become a living, breathing coffee shop. Dave is the craftsman behind the benches, bars, and tables in the establishment. Lucky’s opened its doors in autumn of 2017, and the weekend lines have been out the door ever since.
If the idea of a garage turned coffee shop isn’t enough to pique your interest and send you running to Lucky’s, the delicious drinks and nibbles should do it. Lucky’s coffee is more than just delicious; the beans for their freshly brewed coffees are imported from all over the world, and if you taste a brew you love at the café, you can purchase a bag of beans to take home. These baristas are coffee connoisseurs; try their frothy lattés or cappuccinos, or sit down to a nice pour-over coffee with the recommended roast of bean. In the warmer months, you might opt for the rich, nitro cold brew on tap.
And—lucky for Lebanon—Lucky’s is more than just a coffee shop; it’s a full-fledged culinary experience. On weekend mornings, get there early enough for one of Catherine’s Sweet and Savory popovers. Lucky’s also makes a wicked good salami sandwich and offers a daily rotating selection of homemade soups. You’ll always be able to complement your coffee or tea with a tempting bakery item, baked in-house every morning. I’m a big fan of the vegan chocolate chip cookies and the pumpkin muffins, but watch out for the baked donuts: they are dangerously delicious. Stop by for breakfast; how about a muesli bowl or a breakfast sandwich? Lucky’s has a handcrafted table seat and a hand-poured latté waiting for you.
What’s next for this cool new establishment? Watch for the potential addition of a bar scene in the evenings to offer microbrews, wine, and maybe cocktails. Whatever Lucky’s comes up with next, it’s sure to be delicious and popular with locals and visitors alike. Lucky’s is open Monday through Saturday from 7 am to 4 pm, and Sunday from 8 am to 2 pm.
