Is your family crazy about Star Wars? Do Klatooine paddy frogs pair better with Bantha milk or Jawa juice? And what’s good to eat on a swamp planet where the only chef is a tiny green Jedi hermit?

If you’d like to find the answers to these and other questions, be sure to check out the family-friendly “May the 4th Be With You” cooking class at the Lebanon
Co-op on Thursday, May 4th of course! In this whimsical class for Star Wars fans of all ages, you can create and eat Earthly adaptations of Yoda’s Rootleaf stew, Rey’s portion bread, Luke and Leia’s rations, and Aunt Beru’s Bantha milk (or Jawa juice for adults). Besides cooking and eating, you’ll enjoy Star Wars trivia activities.

May 4th became known as Star Wars Day because of an ad in the London Evening News on that date in 1979. A half-page advertisement congratulated Margaret Thatcher on being elected prime minister of the UK, with the headline, “May the 4th Be With You, Maggie.” The phrase caught on several years later when theaters started using the day to hold film festivals and offer discounts.

This is a hands-on class where participants will take active roles in cooking the meal, which will be enjoyed by the whole class. It will be held at the Lebanon Co-op, 12 Centerra Parkway, from 5:30 to 8pm. The cost is $20 for Co-op members and $40 for non-members. Sign up online (coopfoodstore.coop), by calling (603) 643-2667), or at any Co-op location.
