The Norwich Women’s Club Spring Gala Is Honoring Two Special People As Norwich Citizens Of The Year

Mar 17, 2015 04:54PM ● By Kirsten Gehlbach
The Norwich Women's Club Spring Gala celebrates the spirit of quiet generosity in Norwich, of neighbors helping neighbors. The 2015 Spring Gala will be held on Friday, March 20th at 6pm at Tracy Hall and is sponsored by the Norwich Women’s Club and Ledyard National Bank.

This year the Gala is honoring two special people as Norwich Citizens of the Year to demonstrate different ways to make a difference. Both recipients of the Citizen of the Year Award are originally teachers by profession. They represent different generations. One moved to town, and one was born here, but each has been instrumental in organizing Norwich’s volunteer traditions—both old and new.

Marty James has been involved with the Norwich Christmas Pageant for over 40 years. Dan Fraser started the 19 Days of Norwich just two years ago. Both of these traditions have brought people in the community together to serve a common good. By honoring Marty and Dan, the Norwich Women’s Club celebrates different ways of giving back and different ways of enlisting the support of our community—the community of families in Norwich as well as the community of businesses in the town. Dan and Marty will be honored and will each receive the generous Ledyard Grant to be given to the charity of their choice. Nancy Hoggson will also be honored and remembered as a community member who contributed tirelessly to the town and the Historical Society.

The Gala will feature delicious offerings from Chef Barry Clarke, the Barefoot Gourmet, and wine and beer by Maple Street Catering, plus fabulous prizes to bid on in both a silent and a live auction. Prizes include a weekend in Manhattan, a vacation on the Vineyard, Pig and Wolf at your party, house tours, a fire engine ride around Norwich, photo sessions, dinners out, cakes and pies—and so much more!

New this year is an online silent auction with bidding until March 19 at noon, with dozens of wonderful prizes to bid on. Visit www.32auctions.com/NWCSpringGala.

The dress code for the Spring Gala is anything you want it to be, from blue jeans to ball gowns. Whether you want to dress up or dress down, don’t miss it! The Gala is a celebration of community service—honoring Dan, Marty, and Nancy; bringing people together at the end of a long winter; and raising funds for the Norwich Women’s Club’s Community Projects fund for future contributions to Norwich and our wider community.
