“I’ve always loved Christmas lights since I was young,” says Devon. “I came across a YouTube video of a house synced to music and said to myself that I wanted to do the same thing.”
Devon began collecting lights. But in 2013, on the evening of December 7, he found out that his uncle tragically lost his life in a head-on collision on I89, which changed his life forever, he says. In addition, he also lost his aunt and his unborn cousin, who was due a few weeks after the accident. When Devon started doing public displays, he wanted to dedicate this one to his family. It was his way of coping with his loss, he says.
This year marks 10 years since this loss. In honor of that, he wanted to create something bigger than ever. “That’s why, for the first time, the display will be held at Coburn Park and be close to 100,000 lights in memory of 10 years,” Devon says.
Opening day for lighting up is December 2 at 5:15 p.m. and will be part of the Lebanon recreation celebration. Devon will also be hosting the DB Lights Carnival from 12 to 6 p.m. on the same day.
It has become a holiday tradition to see lights featured on the Lebanon Mall or at the Kilton Library. Devon has volunteered his time with countless hours from volunteers, family, and friends to create a display to keep his uncle's memory alive in the community.
The lights are synchronized to music, and the radio station to tune into is 95.1 FM.
The display will be up starting December 2 until after the new year. Every night, the display will be on from 5 until 9 p.m. unless otherwise noted on the DB Lights Facebook Page.
